$26.400 - $29.450 - $32.480The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
Provides direct observation and ensures a safe environment for patients who require constant attention/supervision under the direction of a licensed nurse with consideration to age specific needs/care. Exhibits caring and compassionate behavior in the provision of care to a wide range of patient populations.
Required Qualifications
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 Year skilled nursing experience or acute experience.
Essential Functions
- Admissions, discharge and transfer responsibilities
Orients patient/resident and family to the facility/room.
Inventories and documents patient's personal belongings on inventory sheet upon admission and update as needed.
Accounts for patient's belongings during transfer and discharge process.
Transfers/transports patient to activities, therapies and other departments on time and in a safe manner.
Removes all patient's equipment and supplies upon discharge.
Ensures room preparation set-up for next admission. - Assures availability of patient equipment and supplies
Checks, cleans equipment, materials as appropriate as indicated by Infection Control Policy.
Provides patient with appropriate assistive device/s as needed.
Checks and follows up on patient's requests for additional supplies or comfort measures.
Utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner, and ensures accurate charging per corporate compliance policy.
Obtains and returns supplies and materials from other departments. - Completes delegated tasks within scope of practice
Seeks individualized patient information/instructions and goals from licensed nurse upon reporting to the unit. May be assigned to monitor two patients in the same room.
Sits in the patient's room with an unobstructed view of the patient.
Observes the patient and maintains a safe environment as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Accompanies patient for any clinical tests/procedures off the unit.
Will not leave the patient without Registered Nurse approval.
Completes all aspects of Activities of Daily Living including, but not limited to, the following: vital signs, bathing, feeding, toileting, range of motion.
Refers patient to the nurse or physician to answer questions regarding care/condition. Does not engage in conversations with the patient regarding his/her medical or psychiatric condition or plan of care.
The sitter will constantly observe patient(s) and remains within 5 feet of the patient(s) during waking hours and no more than 10 feet away when the patient(s) is asleep. - Patient care activities
Monitors the patient's verbalizations and immediately informs the charge nurse if the patient expresses any idea or intention to hurt self or others or to leave without physician's permission.
Documents daily care of patient per unit standards.
Identifies and communicates new patient care issues/concerns.
Communicates changes in patients condition.
Takes rapid action in life threatening situations and immediately notifies the licensed nurse.
Communicates or questions requests outside of scope of practice to appropriate personnel.
May not remove or adjust restraints. Notifies Registered Nurse if the patient complains of discomfort or attempts to remove restraints
Communicates incomplete work requiring follow-up before the end of shift to licensed nurse.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic patient/resident care skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to perform all baseline patient/resident skills under guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Fluent knowledge (written and spoken) of English.
- Knowledge comparable to a certified nursing assistant course.
